Jennifer Kupcho wins Augusta National Women's Amateur with masterful finish
Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho went 5-under par over her final six holes to win.
The inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur delivered a fantastic final group duel between Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho, the No. 1 amateur golfer in the world, and Arkansas’ Maria Fassi.
Kupcho came to the par-5 13th trailing Fassi by two strokes, but exited Amen Corner with a share of the lead. After hitting a drive into the center of the fairway, Kupco hit a phenomenal second shot over the water to within 10 feet, and drained the eagle putt.
Fassi regained the lead with a birdie at 14, but Kupcho joined Fassi at 8-under with a birdie at 15. The iconic par-3 16th changed everything. Kupcho hit another shot to just a few feet below the hole, and poured in the birdie putt to get to 9-under. Fassi, meanwhile, left herself an incredibly difficult second shot and three-putted the tricky green to bogey the hole.
At the 18th, Kupcho capped her victory with another brilliant birdie putt, winning the inaugural title by sinking a lengthy birdie putt.
