UNITED STATES’ players were blasted for over-celebrating their record-breaking 13-0 win over Thailand in the Women’s World Cup.
The victory – in which Alex Morgan scored FIVE – was unsurprisingly the biggest victory in World Cup history, men’s or women’s.
But as the goals kept flooding into Thailand’s net, the US did not relent in their celebrations, either.
And while few could criticise the number of goals scored, many felt their continuing humiliation by going over the top was completely unnecessary.
With the contest already over, Morgan led a team celebration including the substitutes, dancing on the touchline.
And Megan Rapinoe decided to sprint around the pitch then do a dramatic slide after making it 9-0.
Understandably, Canadian pair Clare Rustad and Kaylyn Kyle were two of the highest-profile pundits to lay into the US.
Rustad told TSN: “I just think they could have won with some humility and grace, and they just couldn’t manage to do that.
“Celebrating goals later in the game like this is just completely unnecessary. What is this?”
And Kyle fumed: “They’re the No. 1 team in the world and for me, I’m disgusted, honestly.”

Another tweeted: “Ok… settle down USA … you’re up 11-0 against Thailand in the Women’s World Cup… you don’t need to celebrate the goals anymore… be better.”
A third added: “Professional sports people should not take it easy on other teams. They should always perform to the best of their ability.
“However, celebrations of the latter goals were disrespectful. Running over to the sidelines and dancing for your 12th goal? No need.
“Watch Manchester City’s celebrations against Burton Albion. That’s how professionals act.”
And another user said: “What a disgrace by the @USWNT those Thailand girls just wanted to be apart of something and that’s called the beautiful game and those American woman turned the game we love into something ugly.
“No respect. Especially with the celebrations. Pathetic football.”
But Abby Wambach – who scored 184 goals in 256 games for the US – defended her compatriots.
She tweeted: “For all that have issue with many goals: for some players this is there first World Cup goal, and they should be excited.

“Imagine it being you out there. This is your dream of playing and then scoring in a World Cup. Celebrate. Would you tell a men’s team to not score or celebrate?”
It could easily have been more, as well, with the USA registering a whopping 40 shots compared to Thailand’s two.
