Mitch Trubisky Had a Perfect Reply Regarding His MVP Buzz
The MVP landscape for the 2019 season will feature the usual suspects like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, reigning king Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers and other notable quarterbacks. Yet the name that continues to generate talk of late is Mitch Trubisky. Most critics find the idea of the Chicago Bears quarterback actually winning that award to be laughable. So many things go against that idea from the Bears’ QB legacy to stiff competition and his inconsistencies from last season.
Trubisky threw for over 3,200 yards with 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2018. While those numbers weren’t bad, they also aren’t anywhere close to the customary level necessary to win MVP. Typically it takes around 4,500 yards and 35 TD passes to even get into the conversation. That level of production is not impossible for Trubisky, but it would be a sizable jump from where he was last year.
That certainly hasn’t stopped bettors in Las Vegas. When the sportsbooks released the odds on the Bears QB winning the MVP award, bets began flying in. Some experts think people have gone crazy. Is belief in Trubisky really that strong? Well, yes and no. The quarterback spoke with Mike Silver of NFL.com on the subject. He clarified that he knows the real reason most people are taking those odds.
Mitch Trubisky has a great self-awareness about him
One thing about Trubisky that never gets enough credit is his humble attitude. He is a confident young man when it comes to his ability, but he never throws it in the face of other people. Some quarterbacks might’ve embraced the idea of winning MVP. Trubisky instead didn’t lie to himself. He told the truth for what it is. That doesn’t mean he can’t win MVP, it just means most of the people who picked him to do so didn’t do it because they believed in him.
They wanted a chance to make some big money.
There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a capitalist country, after all. Trubisky isn’t focused on the situation either way. His job is to win football games for the Bears. Whether an MVP comes along with that is fine but his goal is a Super Bowl ring. It doesn’t matter if he’s the primary driving force or not. He’s just trying to be one of the guys that help to make it a reality. Thus far in training camp, there are signs he’s definitely on the right track.
