According to multiple sources there is a plan being set in motion for a rare Minimumweight world title unification bout.
The bout in question depends on two upcoming bouts, both of which would require the defending champions to retain their titles. The first of those bouts takes place this coming Friday and sees WBA Minimumweight champion Knockout CP Freshmart (19-0, 7) [น็อคเอาท์ ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] take on unbeaten Filipino teenager ArAr Andales (10-0, 2). If success Knockout would then be watching carefully on Auguist 24th when WBO champion Vic Saludar (19-3, 10) defends his title against mandatory challenger Wilfredo Mendez (13-1, 5) in Puerto Rico.
If Knockout and Saludar both win their contests the plan is for them to face off and unify the titles.
According to at least one source, this bout had been planned for earlier in the year, though failed to come come off for reasons that weren't made clear. That is likely part of why Knockout has been so inactive this year, especially given he was supposed to have had a bout back in April, a bout that was rumoured and then vanished without a trace.
Whilst both champions will be favoured in their upcoming defenses they aren't gimmies by any stretch of the imagination and both Andales and Mendez will be looking to play spoilers to the these plans, and in fairness neither man should be over-looked. Andales has been impressing in recent bouts on the Filipino scene whilst Mendez has won 4 in a row and will have home advantage for his bout with Saludar.
