This bettor’s confidence over a $135K bet on a Golden Knights Stanley Cup win is probably justified
It's only hubris if you fail!
Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice’s loose approach to his team’s loss in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final is understandable. Florida has weathered seemingly every storm this postseason, regardless of the caliber of its competition. They’re not out of this series. Not by a long shot.
But the Las Vegas Golden Knights might be different compared to the Eastern Conference heavyweights that the Panthers skated by. It’s why one bettor with $135K in futures on a Las Vegas Stanley Cup Final win has some justifiable confidence about their team coming through on one of hockey’s biggest stages. (It’s also a brutal contrast to a bettor who probably should’ve cashed out before Game 1.)
Per an Instagram video from user @jongrace, they’ve got a lot riding on the Golden Knights hoisting the Stanley Cup soon. And they seem pretty adamant the expansion franchise will win its first championship. I personally don’t blame them one bit.

Yes, the Panthers took down the historically great Boston Bruins. Yes, they defeated Auston Matthews’ uber-talented Toronto Maple Leafs. And yes, they made quick work of the East’s No. 2 seed in the Carolina Hurricanes.
But the Golden Knights are no slouch. They had the Western Conference’s top seed for a good reason and have shown they’re no fluke during these playoffs. Jack Eichel and Co. steamrolled through the West, beating the Winnipeg Jets in a gentleman’s sweep, outdueling Connor McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers, and just simply overpowering the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals.
It’s no wonder oddsmakers with BetMGM have Las Vegas as a healthy -225 favorite to win the Cup after their Game 1 victory.
Las Vegas is an experienced team with legitimate star power and depth across all four lines. Florida is a nice Cinderella story, but I don’t think the slipper fits anymore. And someone is about to get very rich as a result.
