McTominay’s return a priority as stats show Scotland star irreplaceable for Napoli
Napoli hope Scott McTominay will be eligible for their upcoming Serie A clash with Atalanta, as the Partenopei have not won any game this season without the Scotland international.
McTominay’s return from injury is a priority for Napoli as the defending Serie A champions have not won any game without the Scotland star on the pitch this term.
Napoli work for McTominay’s return to action and new contract
As Gazzetta highlights, Napoli have collected two defeats and one draw when McTominay was unavailable, so his return to action against Atalanta over the weekend is a must.
The ex-Manchester United star missed the last two Napoli matches against Como in Coppa Italia and Roma in Serie A.
Napoli drew 1-1 with Como but lost on penalties last week, while their match with Roma ended in a 2-2 stalemate. Back in October 2024, Napoli lost 1-0 away at Torino without McTominay on the field.
McTominay has ten goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season, but his value to the Napoli squad extends beyond his goal contributions, averaging 12 kilometres covered per game this term.
Napoli’s injury crisis continues despite Billy Gilmour’s return to action after over two months.
Kevin De Bruyne is not expected to play again until mid-March, while Frank Zambo Anguissa should be back in a couple of weeks.
Gazzetta confirms that Napoli are also working to extend McTominay’s contract until 2030.
