Picks Of The Week of Aug. 16-22, 2018
Thursday-Sunday
The Altamont Fair has been all about fun since it opened its gates 125 years ago. Of course, the forms of fun have changed: Back when the fair swung open its gates in 1893, the attractions did not include the Axe Women Loggers of Maine, the Hollywood Racing Pigs or the Uncharted Wild animal show, all of which are featured this year. There's also a cinnamon bun baking competition, a pie-eating contest, the Circus Hollywood circus, and goat, cattle, rabbit and pony shows. Live bands will perform each night; The Audiostars play Wednesday, followed by Skeeter Creek, The Refrigerators, Big Sky Country, and the New York Players. 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday and Sunday; 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday. $17-$19; ages 3 and under free.
