Chicago Bears Will Love The New Inside Info On 2023 Draft
The Chicago Bears are a virtual lock to pick in the top 10 of the upcoming NFL draft. Right now, they control the #2 overall pick. Barring a miraculous run down the stretch, they will pick somewhere between that spot and #10. If they lose their remaining five games, which is quite possible, then #2 is where they should stay. Even if they don’t, it sounds like the board could still break their way based on recent updates regarding expectations for how the early picks will play out.
Brandon Deacon covers the draft for NFL Rookie Watch. He reached out to an NFL general manager asking about the expectations for the 2023 quarterback class. The answer he got was interesting, to say the least.
This benefits the Bears in a big way, if true. They already have their quarterback in place with Justin Fields. That means they’ll be targeting other positions. Common sense dictates that the more quarterbacks go in the top picks, the better non-QB prospects will be available further down the board. Since 2018, the draft has seen three quarterbacks go in the top seven selections three times. This time could see the same.
Chicago Bears likely have a good idea of who will garner serious interest.
It’s already a foregone conclusion that Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud are the two heavy favorites to go in the top five. The third name to watch is Will Levis of Kentucky. What he lacks in polish, he makes up for in sheer talent. Many will see another Josh Allen type. The fourth name to watch is likely Anthony Richardson of Florida. While he’s had some highs and lows in 2022, his sheer talent is no joke. Big, strong, and mobile. Another in a growing line of dual-threat quarterbacks.
The Chicago Bears would benefit from all four going in the top 10, especially if they end up picking in the bottom half between 6-10. That gives them far better odds of landing a top prospect they covet either on the defensive line, offensive line, or wide receiver. If they hold the #2 pick, that gives them tons of leverage with any team that may want to move up for a quarterback they prefer. Either way, Ryan Poles should benefit. Do not understate how important it was that Fields took a step forward this year. The Bears might be one of those teams scrambling for a QB if he hadn’t.
