Horse racing tips: After finding 7-1 Epsom winner Templegate picks out monster 33-1 St Leger pick & 5-1 Frankie punt

TEMPLEGATE could not have advised an easier winner than Torito in last week’s column.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained colt could not have been a more impressive winner of the Lester Piggott handicap at Epsom.

Torito was advised at 7-1 and won at 4-1 – showing the benefit of finding these good horses early.

Here, our top tipster aka Steve Mullen, picks one out at Haydock this weekend and throws it forward to September with a huge St Leger shout.

MIMIKYU RIGHT ON CUE FOR HAYDOCK SATURDAY

MIMIKYU looks a decent bet at 5-1 for the Group 3 Lester Piggott Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.

He ran well on comeback when beaten right on the line in the Bronte Cup at York last time.

Frankie Dettori has been jocked up at the five-day stage and it would be great if the Italian is on board, taking over from Kieran O’Neill who rode him on the Knavesmire.

He stays further but has winning form over this trip and track.

Even if the clerk pours too much water on – as he did at the last meeting – he won’t mind as he goes on any surface.

CLASSIC CLUES FROM EPSOM

Auguste Rodin righted the wrong of the 2,000 Guineas with an impressive Derby win ahead of King Of Steel who almost nicked it before the Ballydoyle star came cruising past.

My fancy SPREWELL ran well considering he hated the track and was badly hampered more than once.

He would have been third with better luck and can make the frame in the Irish Derby.

He’s a 12-1 shot for The Curragh on July 1 and that looks more than fair.

The winner probably has the Arc as his end of season target rather than the St Leger but there look a couple of likely types for Doncaster from the Derby.

Immediately after the race, White Birch was 9-1 for the Leger but that has been hoovered up and it’s more like 6s now.

He definitely looks the type to improve for a longer trip but that price looks a little skinny.

The same thing can’t be said of ARTISTIC STAR who is still available at 33-1 with some bookies only half that price.

He ended up out the back after struggling to go the early pace and was dead last passing the 2f pole.

He then ran on strongly into seventh and will have learned plenty from the experience.

Doncaster will suit him a lot better and he has an each-way chance at those long odds.
