Follow-up Friday: Bringing viewers heat, gas and more
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- From East Harlem to the Bronx, PIX11's Monica Morales has delivered results for viewers.
Queen Mcfarlane lives at the Twin Parks East in the Bronx and said her home was freezing. In winter 2021, 2022, and now 2025, Mcfarlane, the tenant president, reached out for help to restore her heat. She put her cat named "Mister" in his winter coat just to stay warm.
Update: A NYCHA spokesperson told PIX11 News, “NYCHA staff have today confirmed that all heating equipment in the building is fully operational, and have been responsive to residents in need of assistance covering windows and terrace doors to reduce any drafts. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application.“
Bronx woman helps homeless women get back on their feet
PIX11's viewers fell in love with community champion Elaine Gibson, a cashier at Montefiore Moses Campus' hospital cafe in the Bronx. She’s also the sister-in-law of PIX11’s Kendis Gibson. On her time off she volunteers at a women’s shelter, giving joy, resources and inspiration.
Update: Her initiative is called Grateful 8, and she needs support. To donate to a GoFundMe fundraiser, click here.
NYCHA residents in Brooklyn left struggling after gas leak
Sandra Bradford is from the Farragut Houses in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. She told PIX11 her holidays were ruined because there was no gas service in her building. Fourteen families couldn’t cook. After PIX11's story, NYCHA launched into action.
Update: A NYCHA spokesperson told PIX11: “Gas risers were replaced at Farragut Houses last week and an inspection was completed earlier today. NYCHA continues to work with our partners to ensure gas service is restored as quickly and safely as possible.”
