Transit projects are underway in the Bronx
THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Construction will begin this month at three Metro-North Railroad Harlem Line stations in the Bronx.
Riders will see the work at Williams Bridge, Woodlawn, and the Botanical Garden.
The other major project is on the eastern edge of the borough along existing tracks owned by Amtrak. Four new Metro-North stations and stops are being created at Hunts Point, Parkchester, Morris Park, and Co-Op City.
For the summer’s accessibility work, crews will be rebuilding the Williams Bridge and Woodlawn stations with new elevators at each platform. New platforms will have an internal system that melts snow.
Crews will replace both elevators and complete state-of-good-repair and renewal work at the Botanical Garden Station. New ramps will be accessible.
The MTA wants to improve service and make sure riders know about discounts.
The City Ticket is a $5 one-way, off-peak ride for travel within the boroughs on Metro-North and the LIRR. It’s $7 during peak travel. The ride has to begin and end in NYC.
“We’re slashing fares and increasing frequencies in the Bronx so that Metro-North serves New Yorkers just as well as it does our suburban customers. This project makes sure that these new and old customers will have first-class, modern, and accessible stations so Bronxites can take full advantage of the access Metro-North provides to jobs, educatio,n and all that the region has to offer,” said MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber.
The Harlem River Line stations will remain open during the work. There may be some platform changes or reconfigurations.
The four new stations are part of the Penn Access Project. The tracks connect to Penn Station and the New Haven Line.
There have been some delays with Amtrak. The first rides are planned for 2028.
