Czech Republic not responsible for weapons sale to Azerbaijan – debate
The Czech Senate's speaker on Wednesday dismissed his government’s responsibility for any sale of weapons to Azerbaijan, saying that they have absolutely no idea as to how the Czech arms and ammunitions found in the country’s military arsenal could have possibly reached there.
“The Czech Republic respects the embargo imposed on such dangerous countries as that. We do not really have any idea as to how those weapons reached Azerbaijan, but I give you my assurances that neither the Czech authorities nor government have given any consent to that,” Milan Stech said at a news conference held at the National Assembly.
He also reiterated the Czech Republic’s support to the peaceful and negotiated settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “We support only one option, i.e. – a settlement in the frameworks of the [OSCE] Minsk Group. Superpowers like the United States, Russia and France must be able to pave way to a peaceful and fair solution,” Mr Stech added.
