Russia tightens import rules for Armenian, Azerbaijan and Belarus
The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has imposed tougher rules on the import of fruits and vegetables to rule out the supply of banned products, especially from Armenia, Belarus and Azerbaijan.
The agency has required that the corresponding authorities in the exporting states put labels on the batches of tomatoes, mentioning the supplying company’s name and street address, RIA Novosti reports, citing an official statement.
The Federal Service cited the increasingly frequent banned imports from the above countries as a reason for enforcing a stricter measure.
The agency also warned that the products not having the required labelling will be kept as long as their manufacturers are unidentified.
The Russian authorities earlier voiced concerns that Turkish tomatoes exported to other countries often illegally appear on their market through repeated exports.
