Parliamentary elections to take place in Armenia on June 7, 2026
ArmInfo. Parliamentary elections in Armenia will be held on June 7, 2026. This was announced by Vahagn Hovakimyan, Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, at a press conference in Yerevan on December 24.
He explained that, according to the Armenian Constitution, the elections must be held between June 2 and 12, that is, within the 10 days allotted for them. Hovakimyan also noted that the president sets the election date and acknowledged that no relevant decree has been issued yet.
"So why are many people calling June 7 the election date? Because during this period, the only Sunday falls on June 7. If the President of Armenia sets a different date for the elections, this could lead to legal consequences. For example, if the elections are scheduled on a weekday, it will be necessary to declare it a non-working day, which will require additional legal regulations," the CEC Chairman explained. Thus, as Hovakimyan noted, discussing the election date before the presidential decree is issued is due to the fact that there is only one Sunday during the specified period when the elections can take place.
The CEC Chairman also announced that a number of monitoring and control programs will be implemented in cooperation with international colleagues ahead of the upcoming elections in Armenia. "These measures will be aimed at ensuring transparency of both the campaign process and the elections themselves, including financial transparency. The implementation of these programs will allow for more effective monitoring of campaigning processes, especially those conducted online," Hovakimyan concluded.
