Local elections to take place in 46 communities in 2026 - CEC  chairman 

ArmInfo.  Local government elections will be held in 46 communities across Armenia in the fall of 2026. Central Election Commission Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan  announced this at a press conference in Yerevan on December 24.

According to the CEC chairman, they will cover regional centers such  as Ashtarak, Artashat, Armavir, Gavar, Vanadzor, Hrazdan, Kapan,  Yeghegnadzor, and Ijevan. "Although one day is usually allocated for  elections, to ensure their proper organization, three days will be  allocated in 2026: the last Sunday of September, October, and  November, as organizing elections in 46 communities on a single day  will be simply impossible," Hovakimyan explained.

The head of the Armenian Central Election Commission also spoke about  the steps taken to improve the country's electoral system. An  important decision, he noted, was the Central Election Commission's  adoption of the 2025-2028 strategic plan, which was approved on April  10, 2025. "This is the first document of its kind, adopted after two  years of discussion and study of international experience. The  challenges the country faced during local government elections were  also taken into account during its development," Hovakimyan said.

The CEC Chairman also cited the creation of a new CEC structure,  which will be implemented in January 2026, as another important  development. "Within this structure, a training center will be  established responsible for training participants in the electoral  process. In particular, training courses for media representatives  with the participation of international experts are planned for the  2026 parliamentary elections," Hovakimyan concluded.

As ArmInfo previously reported, the CEC Chairman announced today that  the 2026 parliamentary elections will be held on June 7.
