Meeting with delegation from EU4Sevan+ program held at MTAI Water Committee
ArmInfo. The Armenian Water Committee hosted a delegation from the "Efficient Water Management for Sustainable Development of Communities in Armenia" (EU4Sevan+) program. The delegation included Nils Teves, EU4Sevan+ Project Manager at the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Edgar Pirumyan, Project Advisor, and Olga Weigel, Project Manager for the Environmental Component.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the four components of the program and the necessary steps for their implementation. They agreed to establish a coordination council jointly with other interested agencies. Particular attention was paid to wastewater treatment and opportunities for community engagement, including through cooperation with communities in Germany. According to the Committee's report, Armenia currently is facing serious challenges in ensuring effective water and wastewater management. The project aims to address these challenges by aligning the environmental needs of Lake Sevan with the water security of adjacent river basins, while ensuring optimal water resource allocation among all beneficiaries.
Recall, the program's launch was officially launched in early December 2025. Its budget is 7.5 million euros, with 3.5 million euros funded by the EU and 4 million by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The program will be implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) until 2028.
