From September 21, bronze bust of goddess Anahit from collection of British Museum to be exhibited at Museum of History
ArmInfo.From September 21 this year and until March 2025, the bronze bust of the goddess Anahit from
the collection of the British Museum (1st century BC) will be exhibited at the Museum of History from the collection of the British Museum. According to the press service of the Ministry of Education,
Science, Culture and Sports (MESCS), this was stated by the Director of the Museum, David Poghosyan.
In connection with such an event, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to
Armenia John Gallagher noted: "I am very pleased that the British
Museum will temporarily give the bronze bust of the goddess Anahit to
the History Museum of Armenia. The British Museum is renowned for its
large collection and its willingness to display its treasures around
the world.
According to the source, the History Museum of Armenia has previously
collaborated with the British Museum, temporarily providing its
exhibits as part of various international exhibitions. However, for
the first time in Armenia, samples from this prestigious museum will
be exhibited, especially such symbolic ones, which have special
significance for the Armenian people. Earlier, the Museum of History
reported that with the approval of the Board of Trustees of the
British Museum, this year within the framework of the exhibition
entitled "Mother Divinity: From Anahit to Mariam," the bust and hand
preserved from the bronze statue of the goddess Anahit (1st century
BC) will be exhibited for the first time at the Museum of History of
Armenia,.
The bust of a gilded bronze statue of the goddess Anahit, which was
found in Erinj, near Erzurum (modern Turkey) in the 1870s, is kept in
the British Museum.
