Sobhani: Iran`s "red lines" regarding inviolability of borders of countries in region have not changed
ArmInfo. "Iran's "red lines" regarding the inviolability of the borders of the countries in the
region have not changed, I emphasize this on a regular basis in all my interviews." Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani stated on April 16 at a press conference in Yerevan to clarify whether Iran's
position on this issue has changed, taking into account the fact that Azerbaijan continues to keep a number of territories of the Republic of Armenia under occupation.
The diplomat again emphasized the importance of respecting the
internationally recognized borders of states. "We are categorically
against geopolitical changes, including the internationally
recognized borders of states in the region. We believe that all
problems should be resolved diplomatically at the negotiating table
while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
We support a peaceful resolution of conflicts," Sobhani explained.
The Iranian ambassador again accused Israel of destabilizing the
situation in the South Caucasus. "One of the factors of instability
in the South Caucasus is the Israeli regime. This regime, in addition
to trying to develop militarism in the region, is also trying to
create tension between Iran and regional countries," he emphasized.
According to him, if militarism develops somewhere, it increases the
risk of clashes, and an increase in the number of clashes leads to
destabilization and threatens security. "This affects the people of
the region, as well as Iran. It is obvious that the regime is trying
to create tension between Iran and the countries of the region, since
this regime is our enemy," Sobhani said, while expressing hope that
the people of the region are so prudent that they do not will start
clashes with any country in the region.
"Prudence in foreign policy lies in the fact that relations with
neighbors and other countries need to be considered in the long term.
I think that the countries of the region have such an understanding,
and they will not subject the life of the region to the adventures of
the Zionist regime," Sobhani concluded.
