Border troops to deal with issues of protecting Armenia`s borders - Pashinyan
ArmInfo.Border troops will deal with the protection of the borders of Armenia. Prime Minister of
the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan told reporters on April 20.
He noted that the logic of border protection must be changed.
Currently, the border services of Armenia and Azerbaijan are in
constant communication, and they must agree on control mechanisms
after the border delimitation process. As for the Russian border
guards who were deployed in the area of the village of Voskepar in
August 2021, they, as the head of government noted, will be withdrawn
from the Tavush region. Pashinyan recalled that Russian border guards
were deployed on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan in a different
situation, which has changed significantly today. The Prime Minister
added that in this case it will be about the state border, rather
than the front line. For this reason, Armenian border guards will be
promptly deployed in the border areas of Tavush region. "We are
dealing with an event of historical significance, and I do not rule
out that the signs "Republic of Armenia" and "Republic of Azerbaijan"
will be set on the roads, this should be appreciated," the head of
the RA government emphasized.
Yesterday, the parties agreed to complete agreement on the draft
regulations on joint activities of delimitation commissions by July
1.The parties have agreed that the process of delimitation will be
based on the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991. The parties have also
arranged to stipulate this fundamental principle in the draft
Regulation (in the future, in case the Agreement on establishment of
peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and
the Republic of Azerbaijan provides otherwise, the relevant clause of
the Regulation will be brought into compliance with the principles as
prescribed by this Agreement). Agreed that after the parties approve
the Regulation, they will arrange the order and continue the
delimitation process of all the remaining sections of the border,
including the issues of enclaves and exclaves. On April 19, the
eighth meeting of the commissions on state border demarcation was
held on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan, following which a
protocol was signed. According to the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
the delimitation of borders of the separate sections of the
borderline immediately between the settlements of the Armenian
village of Baghanis- Azerbaijani Baghanis Ayrum, Armenian Voskepar-
Azerbaijani Ashaghi Askipara, Armenian Kirants- Azerbaijani
Kheyrimli, Armenian Berkaber- Azerbaijani Ghizilhajili has been
preliminarily agreed upon.
