Wednesday Oct. 5 marks World Teachers’ Day and we want to take this opportunity to celebrate the amazing teachers at Champlain Saint-Lambert. We are so proud of our faculty and the incredible dedication they have shown to delivering a top notch learning experience for our students over the years. Our faculty in both the Day Division and Continuing Education are such a big part of what makes Champlain a great place for our students. How Shakeel Phinn went from Cavaliers football MVP to a pro boxing champ Shakeel Phinn says that his transition from College football to pro boxing started with an ego check. Phinn (who studied Sport Marketing and Management at Champlain) played running back for the Champlain Cavaliers and was named team offensive MVP for the 2010–11 season. Congratulations to the Black Lives Allyship Mission (BLAM) and 2022 graduate Celeste Trianon who both took home Forces Avenir awards at the gala in Quebec City on Wednesday night. Celeste was nominated in the individual category of Persevering Student and took home a bursary for $7,000. Meanwhile the BLAM team took home $5,000 in bursaries. Congrats also to Relay for Life and KPOP Triple Crown Showcase who were both provincial finalists. We are so proud of all your efforts and fantastic contributions to student life!
Fifty-five student-athletes from the Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers have been named Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Scholars for the 2021-22 academic year. This award is presented every year to student-athletes who compete in a CCAA sport and have obtained an 80% or higher average over the academic year. The Cavaliers compete in the CCAA in Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Cross-Country Running, and Men’s & Women’s Soccer. Congratulations to each and everyone one of them on this amazing accomplishment. Fifty years ago, Champlain College Saint-Lambert was established during a groundbreaking ceremony held in an empty field on the snow-covered banks of the St. Lawrence in 1972. Champlain College Saint-Lambert is cancelling classes all day on Friday, Sept. 23. The Champlain Student Association (CSA) has informed the college that students intend to boycott classes as of noon on Friday in order to participate in the Climate Change march. Since the government regulations require 75 teaching days and Friday will no longer qualify as one of them, the college will be cancelling classes in the Day Division that day.
