Since December 4, 2022, social media users have been claiming that Russia recently recorded an all-time low temperature of -71.2°C in Oymyakon, a town in the country's northeast. To illustrate these claims, an image that was allegedly taken when the record was set has been circulating. However, this photo is actually a photomontage made from old images. The lowest temperature recorded in Oymyakon dates back to the beginning of the 20th century.

Iran has been rocked by huge demonstrations since the September death in custody of Mahsa Amini, arrested for allegedly violating the country's dress code for women. Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands arrested in the unrest, described by authorities as "riots", prompting further protests in solidarity around the globe, including in Germany.
