One killed in ethnic protests in Iraq's Kirkuk
The dead man was a Kurd who had been shot in the chest, the director of the local health authority Ziad Khalaf told AFP, but was unable to say who had killed him. Khalaf said a member of the security forces was among the injured, who had been hit by bullets, stones or glass. He said that both Kurds and Arabs were among the 12 who were injured. The curfew was imposed in the evening after rival protests -- between Kurdish residents on one side and Turkmen and Arabs on the other -- descended into violence despite a security presence.
