KUWAIT: Parents’ involvement in their children’s education plays a crucial role in fostering their academic success and personal development, as they create a supporting and nurturing environment that encourages learning. This way parents demonstrate to their children the value of education, which motivates them to take their studies seriously and work towards setting goals and achieving them. To look more into parents’ effective role in their children’s education, Kuwait Times interviewed Mubarak Al-Enezi, a teacher of humanities and business.
Kuwait Times: What is the role of parents in education?
Mubarak Al-Enezi: Education is the key to success of all communities and the door of knowledge, culture and values. Only countries with vision have enthusiasm for education because they believe they cannot create their future without educated individuals with commitment, ethics and ambition.
It is obvious that the education process has various theories and ways according to different aspects, but the basic key to success in education is related to the person who provides you with knowledge by using effective methods related to real life. Hence, parents and teachers have the same important role in education. In fact, it starts with the parents, as they start building the consciousness and personality of their kids in their early years of life.
Kuwait Times: Why is it important for parents to be actively involved in their children’s education?
Enezi: Parents have an important role during their children’s school age, same as in their preschool age. They must cooperate with teachers to supervise, provide a healthy environment of learning and find the positives and negatives in a student’s performance and attitude and begin to use effective methods to help students fight attitude disorders like hyperactivity, autism and learning difficulties.
Kuwait Times: How can parents encourage a love of learning and motivate their children to engage with their education?
Enezi: Engagement is one of the effective methods to help the students learn to be responsible, believe in themselves and be confident. Also, parents should raise their awareness on the importance of education in modern life and develop skills they need to continue the journey of education.
Kuwait Times: How can parents ensure their child’s physical and mental well-being in relation to their education? Enezi: Parents must encourage students to have commitment to physical education, same as mental education. School subjects like PE have a real positive effect on mental education. It helps students to manage their time and be active, focused and healthy.
It can help them discover their favorite habits, activities and types of sports, which can create future champions and athletes. In short, the process of education is a serious journey that needs commitment, responsibility and cooperation. It needs real and honest communication between educators and parents to create the path of knowledge for students.
