Fire engine gets stuck on bollards installed to create ‘Covid-friendly’ roads
An angry resident filmed the scene saying: ‘You’re trying to tell us this is good for us are you?'
Residents were left outraged after a fire engine got stuck in a road block installed in their street to create more ‘Covid-friendly’ cycle lanes.
Firefighters were filmed walking into a house on foot as the vehicle remains wedged between a white car and a raised flower bed at the end of the road in Ferndale, south London.
Many streets have had roadblocks put in place using coronavirus powers with councils describing them as essential to make room for social distancing.
The woman filming the incident unfold said: ‘You’re trying to tell us this is good for us are you? The fire engine is now stuck.’
She zooms into the blocked vehicle adding: ‘Thank you to all of you who don’t care about how we live.’
The incident comes after paramedics got delayed from treating a patient by 20 minutes after getting blocked by newly installed bollards in a LTN.
The man was found unconscious by people living in Leighton Road in Ealing, London, at around 2.15pm on August 29.
Emergency services were called but the medics could not get past new bollards and raised flowers beds installed at the road junction.
Councils claim that the so-called Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTN) will encourage people to walk and cycle more.
However, many have raised concerns over the safety of LTNs and warned that usually quick journeys are now taking motorists double the amount of time.
Residents in several London boroughs are said to be organising protests against them this weekend.
