Pro-Palestinian protesters place fake bloody corpses at home of University of Michigan official

Pro-Palestinian protesters wearing masks pitched tents and placed fake bloody corpses outside the home of a University of Michigan official. Sarah Hubbard is chair of the university’s governing board. She says the 6 a.m. demonstration in Okemos involved 30 people Wednesday with a bullhorn and a drum. The protesters left 30 to 45 minutes later when police arrived. There were no arrests. The protesters have been demanding that the university get rid of investments in companies connected to Israel. The school says it has no direct investments.

Port of New Orleans' chief resigning amid praise for moves to advance new cargo terminal project

The Port of New Orleans’ president and chief executive officer has resigned to pursue an opportunity in the private sector. The port announced Tuesday that Brandy Christian will step down in mid-June. She has served in the leadership role since 2017 but the port didn't say what her next steps would be. Christian was seen as instrumental in advancing a state-of-the-art terminal project called the Louisiana International Terminal. House signs off on FAA bill that addresses aircraft safety and the refund rights of passengers

Congress has passed a bill that is designed to add more safety inspectors at aircraft factories and to give air travelers automatic refunds for canceled or long-delayed flights. The House gave final approval on Wednesday to a $105 billion measure to reauthorize Federal Aviation Administration programs and sent it to President Joe Biden. The Senate passed the bill last week. Stolen antique weathervane recovered 40 years later and returned to Vermont

Vermont state officials say an antique copper weathervane that was swiped from a Vermont railway station 40 years ago has been found and returned to the state. The Vermont Agency of Transportation said in a statement Monday that the 1910 weathervane is of a steam locomotive and coal tender. It sat on top of the White River Junction station before it was stolen in 1983. Nearly 40 years later, it was consigned to a New York auction house. Colorado teen pleads guilty in death of driver who was hit in the head by a rock

A second teen has pleaded guilty in the death of a 20-year-old driver who was hit in the head by a rock that crashed through her windshield in suburban Denver last year. Under a plea deal with prosecutors, Nicholas Karol-Chik pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday. The 19-year-old says he passed a rock to another teen, Joseph Koenig, who then threw it at Alexis Bartell’s car, killing her. Remains of Michigan soldier killed in 1950 during Korean War have been identified, military says

Military officials say the remains of a 17-year-old soldier from Michigan who was killed in the Korean War in 1950 have been identified and will be buried in his home state. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced Tuesday that U.S. Army Pfc. Thomas A. Smith’s remains were identified by military scientists who analyzed DNA, dental and anthropological evidence. McCourt, a former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and executive chairman of investment firm McCourt Global, is an unlikely contender for the ByteDance Ltd.-owned app. TikTok’s US assets were valued at $35 billion to $40 billion by Bloomberg Intelligence analysts.
