An official release from the Union home ministry said it has advised the Chandigarh administration to follow the notification issued by Delhi government giving an exemption to Sikh women from wearing helmets. On August 28, the Delhi Motor Vehicle Rules was amended to substitute the word "women" with "Sikh women" to give them the option to wear helmet or not.
