Dronacharya Purushotham Rai passes away, a day before awards fete

Noted athletics coach Purushotham Rai, who was to receive the Dronacharya award for lifetime contribution in a virtual ceremony on Saturday, passed away in Bengaluru on Friday night following a massive heart attack. Rai, who had three of his wards — Rosa Kutty, MK Asha and Pramila Aiyappa — competing for India at the 2000 Sydney Olympics was happy to receive the honour.

Messi remains silent after Barcelona president's offer to resign

87k health staff infected with Covid, 573 dead; 74% cases from six states

More than 87,000 healthcare workers have been infected with Covid-19, with just six states — Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, West Bengal and Gujarat — accounting for three-fourths (around 74%) of the case burden and over 86% of the 573 deaths due to the infection, official data showed.

Nada decriminalises doping offence by athletes
