Miyo Yoshida to defend WBO title in May
Earlier today Misako Gym announced that they would be holding a show at Korakuen Hall on May 30th, headlined by a world title bout and featuring both a former Japanese champion returning following the loss of his title and another former Japanese champion taking part in his retirement ceremony.
The fighter taking part in their retirement ceremony is former Japanese Bantamweight champion Yusuke Suzuki (11-3, 7) [鈴木悠介], who had to retire following his career defining title win over Yuta Saito, due to issues with his eyes. Although he's not been in action since 2019, this is a lovely way to send him off into his post boxing life, and a great chance to for fans to acknowledge a true warrior.
The former Japanese champion looking to get their career back on track is former Japanese Light Welterweight champion Daishi Nagata (15-3-2, 6) [永田大士], who looks to rebuild form his 2021 title loss to Masahiro Suzuki, as he takes on Tetsuya Kondo (6-5, 4) [近藤哲哉], in what should be an easy comeback bout.
The main bout for the show, and the real talking point of the event, will see WBO female Super Flyweight world champion Miyo Yoshida (15-2) [吉田実代], who seeks the first defense of her second reign, as she takes on Tamao Ozawa (16-5, 6) [小澤瑶生], who gets her third shot at a world title. This will be Yoshida's first bout since she reclaimed the title back in June, when she defeated Tomoko Okuda and avenged the loss she had to Okuda in 2020. As for Ozawa she has previously come up short at world level against Su Yun Hong and Raja Amasheh.
