Jailing them for a combined total of seven years, Judge Philip Head told them: “The happy chance was that a dog training session was going on in the unit and that resulted in your discovery.”
The gang was rumbled when Rambo was taken by his owner, Avtar Singh, into the gym he runs next door.
The dog was there to meet a group of special needs youngsters but went crazy at a hole in the wall between the gym and drugs farm in Leicester.
Mr Singh spotted the plants and alerted police who found the three Albanians hiding.
Prosecutor Neil Bannister, told the city’s crown court: “There were 1,993 fabric buckets, each holding a cannabis plant 10cm to 12cm in height.”

Dema was jailed for 27 months, Hoxha for 33 months, and Jaku for 2½ years.
The judge told them: “I take the view you were clearly motivated by financial gain, with a degree of awareness of the scale of the operation.
“On the other hand, yours were limited functions under the direction of others.
“None of you was ‘Mr Big’, or even ‘Lieutenant Big’.”
