Horizon Forbidden West Trophy Will Help Restore Real Forests
Horizon Forbidden West helps save the real world with the Play and Plant program, which plants a tree for every player who earns an in-game trophy.
A new Play and Plant program will allow Horizon Forbidden West players to help restore forests by earning an in-game trophy. Guerrilla Games' upcoming sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn will take players back to a gorgeously lush post-apocalyptic world inhabited by animalistic machines. Like its predecessor Horizon Forbidden West includes breathtaking environments, with the new hardware only increasing the sequel's immersive beauty.
Horizon Zero Dawn followed protagonist Aloy on a journey across post-apocalyptic America, and Forbidden West will see the heroine travel to a brand-new part of the country. The series' world-ending event wiped out humanity, but nature has grown to reclaim the old world as bestial robots cultivate the planet for a new generation of people. The sequel will bring back the first game's signature gameplay, with players traversing a sprawling open world and hunting machines for their valuable parts. New weapons and abilities will help Aloy on her journey, as enemies both new and old appear to challenge her and her allies. The Horizon Forbidden West trophy list gives a glimpse at the sequel's wide range of content, but one trophy is particular will actually impact our world.
As revealed by PlayStation and reported by IGN, a brand-new Play and Plant initiative will be held using Horizon Forbidden West trophies. The program, in association with the Arbor Day Foundation, will plant one tree for every gamer who unlocks the game's "Reach the Daunt" trophy. Unlocking the trophy, which is done automatically fairly early in the game's story, will help reforest Wisconsin's Douglas County Forest, California's Sheep Fire Private Lands and Florida's Torreya State Park. The promotion will end on March 25, or after all three sites are fully repopulated with trees.
Horizon Zero Dawn was an extremely popular PlayStation-exclusive title, and Forbidden West looks to only improve upon the first game. Reviews for Horizon Forbidden West have been extremely positive, with praise aimed at the title's fascinating open world, interesting characters and enthralling combat system. While the game reportedly maintains what made the first so successful, it also appears to innovate through the introduction of new tools and enemy machines. Playing Horizon Forbidden West can also help rebuild a real-life forest, adding even more reason for gamers to experience Aloy's newest adventure.
Sony's Play and Plant initiative allows gamers to help the real world by becoming immersed in a fictional one. The program helps honor Horizon Forbidden West's gorgeous world by rebuilding the real natural world that inspired it. For gamers interested in doing their part to help the Earth, Horizon Forbidden West's Play and Plant program will run until March 25.
Horizon Forbidden West will release on February 18 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
