Two people were critically injured after a fire tore though an apartment in Calumet Heights late Sunday night, police said. The fire broke out in an eight-floor apartment the 9100 block of South Chicago Avenue at around 11:38 p.m. A 64-year-old man was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital and transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, also in critical condition. No other injuries were reported, according to police.
A death investigation is underway after a teen was found shot in Garfield Park Sunday evening, police said. The teen, 15, was discovered in a residence on the 3000 block of West Jackson Boulevard at around 6:15 p.m. He had ben shot in the chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to police. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the teen as Ledereon Williams. Police said the shooting has been classified as a death investigation.
