Netanyahu on Monday agreed to pause his proposals to weaken the power of judges, nodding to mass protests and a general strike that even shuttered the Israeli embassy in Washington. US officials for weeks spoke in general terms about the need for consensus and shared democratic values, but a White House statement late... Читать дальше...

Where was this video filmed of a mob chasing down police?

One caption claims the video was filmed during recent protests in Kenya, another in Senegal. However, this isn’t a recent video. It was already circulating online way back in January 2015 and has popped up on numerous occasions since – each time with people wrongly attributing it to a new event.

Webb measures temperature of rocky exoplanet for first time

France24.com (en)

When the Trappist-1 system was discovered in 2017, astronomers were excited at the prospect that some of its seven rocky planets -- which are roughly similar to Earth in size and mass -- could be habitable. Just 40 light years from Earth, the planets orbit much closer to their ultracool red dwarf star than the rocky planets in our Solar System. But their star gives off far less energy than our Sun. The system made an obvious target for the piercing gaze of the Webb telescope, which has unleashed... Читать дальше...

The blaze has ravaged 3,800 hectares (9,500 acres) of mainly forest since Thursday and is the first to be recorded so early in a season, which officials say now runs from spring to autumn, rather than just the summer. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the blaze proved "the climate emergency exists". Читать дальше...

The Scots are in buoyant mood after beginning their Group A campaign with a 3-0 home victory against the Cypriots. However, Clarke is preparing for a tougher test against the section's top seeds, who beat Norway 3-0 at home in their opener. "We have to be good and patient without the ball but we also have to be very positive when we have the ball," the Scotland boss said on the eve of the match at Glasgow's Hampden Park. "We have to be ready to be out of possession a little bit more than we were at the weekend, where we dominated possession.

Uproar over Israeli judicial changes: What's it all about?

France24.com (en)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced increasing pressure on Monday to put the brakes on his government's drive to enact sweeping changes to the Israeli judiciary, with hundreds of thousands of protesters taking to the streets. The courts overhaul plan has sparked unprecedented public anger since Netanyahu's coalition of hard-right and religious parties came to power late last year, and has also caused alarm among Israel's Western allies. FRANCE 24's International Affairs Editor Philip Turle tells us more.
