Ex-soldiers shift from protesting to providing aid to people – and pets – in southern Israel

France24.com (en)

The Brothers and Sisters in Arms group was active in the street protests against Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu's controversial justice reforms that rocked Israel for months on end earlier this year. But after the Hamas attacks of October 7, this group of former soldiers pivoted from protesting to evacuating kibbutzim, distributing food and saving animals.

Saudi leader tells British PM attacks on Gaza 'heinous'

Mohammed bin Salman, the Gulf kingdom's de facto ruler, made his comments during a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who before visiting Riyadh met with Israeli leaders and pressed them to let more humanitarian aid into Gaza. Prince Mohammed "affirmed that the kingdom considers targeting civilians in Gaza a heinous crime and a brutal attack, stressing the necessity of working to provide protection for them," the official Saudi Press Agency reported. He also "stressed the need to... Читать дальше...

Hamas masterminds top Israel's 'dead man walking' hit list

France24.com (en)

Military strategist Mohammed Deif and political leader Yahya Sinwar have already spent time in Israeli or Palestinian jails and been the targets of multiple attempts to kill them. The hunt for the two most senior Hamas leaders in the besieged Gaza Strip will be fierce this time. In the war of words leading up to the impending ground offensive, Israel has said that Sinwar is "a dead man walking" after Hamas fighters killed about 1,400 people and abducted more than 200 in the worst attacks suffered by Israel since its creation 75 years ago. Globally, Palestinian cause a magnet for 'self-determination', resisting 'colonialism & oppression'

France24.com (en)

As tens of thousands of people took to the streets around the world on Oct. 13 in support of the Palestinians, all such protests in Germany and France were banned. The two countries - home to the European Union's largest Jewish and Muslim communities - have cracked down on pro-Palestinian groups since Hamas militants burst over the border from Gaza and killed more than 1,400 Israelis on Oct. 7. The governments say the curbs are to stop public disorder and prevent antisemitism. But supporters of the... Читать дальше...

'We need Israeli side to realize that there is a genuine humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza'

France24.com (en)

Palestinians in war-torn Gaza on Thursday eagerly awaited the arrival of aid trucks promised in a deal struck by US President Joe Biden, as Israel's military kept up its bombardment of targets in the Hamas-run enclave. Egyptian state-linked broadcaster Al Qahera News said the Rafah border crossing -- the only one in and out of besieged Gaza not controlled by Israel -- would open on Friday. More than 100 trucks carrying aid have been queuing for days on the Egyptian side of the border, with the... Читать дальше...

France24.com (en)

From their homes in Paris, Palestinians Sarah, Saïd and Yasser* are anxiously following the dramatic situation in Gaza, where their relatives are caught up in the massive bombardment and dire humanitarian crisis triggered by the latest war between Israel and Hamas. They lament France’s ban on pro-Palestinian protests, which prevents them from rallying in public to support their loved ones and to call for an immediate ceasefire.

France24.com (en)

The struggling club has posted financial losses of more than £400 million ($485 million) over four years. Under the English top flight's profit and sustainability rules, clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £105 million over three years. Everton were referred to an independent commission in March. The hearing is expected to be concluded next week, although a decision may not be made public until November, with suggestions the club could face a fine or points deduction if found guilty. Hamas Qatar office in spotlight as Gaza war intensifies

France24.com (en)

Middle East analyst Andreas Krieg, who was based in Qatar between 2013 and 2016, said Doha, would have to "push back" in its relationship with Hamas. "I think there is a realisation that something's got to give in terms of that relationship, depending on what the USA administration are requesting," Krieg said. Hamas militants stormed into Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7, killing at least 1,400 people and taking hostage some 200 more, according to Israeli officials. In Gaza, more than 3,700... Kohli's latest one-day international half-century came off 48 balls, including four fours and a six, with tournament hosts India on course to make it four wins out of four at 171-2 off 27 overs chasing a target of 257. The 34-year-old former captain's innings followed scores of 85 and 55 not out in recent victories over Australia and Afghanistan, with his lone failure in the tournament to date -- 16 -- coming during a seven-wicket defeat of arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Losing to India not end of the world, says Pakistan's Hasan Ali

France24.com (en)

Pakistan went down by seven wickets at Ahmedabad last weekend, their eighth loss in eight meetings with India at World Cups. Pakistan are still well-placed at the tournament, however, with two wins and aim to make it three on Friday when they tackle five-time champions Australia in Bengaluru. "Yes, we lost to India due to making mistakes but the stopped bus will now take two points from every stop," said Hasan. "Losing to India wasn't the end of the world. The game against India is history and that's behind us." He added... Читать дальше...

Players sick from being confined to hotel, says Pakistan's Hasan Ali

France24.com (en)

"We can't go out much. If we do want to go out, we have to go with an entire security team," said Hasan on Thursday. Pakistan are on their first visit to India in seven years while only two of the 15-man squad had ever played in the country before this World Cup. The tense political and diplomatic relationship between the two neighbours means that Pakistan and India meet only in international cricket tournaments, not bilateral events. Pakistan's participation in the World Cup had hinged on security... Читать дальше...

Calls mount for independent inquiry into Gaza hospital bombing

France24.com (en)

As Hamas and Israel continue to trade blame over the bombing of the al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City, calls are mounting for an independent international inquiry into the devastating attack. But such an inquiry is likely to be hampered by the difficulty of collecting evidence in a war zone, as well as Israel not recognising the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

France24.com (en)
