Any registration is supposed to take place within two weeks. "This is an administrative omission of a fact that was completely known to the market," Ajax told NOS. "As soon as we realised, it was straightened out immediately." The club could not be immediately reached for comment. The latest... Читать дальше...

EU pledges €270 million package for Armenia, seeks to boost ties

France24.com (en)

The European Union on Friday pledged a 270-million-euro ($290-million) financial package for Armenia, seeking along with Washington to boost ties with Yerevan as its relations with Russia crumble. Angry with Moscow for failing to stop neighbouring Azerbaijan from recapturing territory in recent years, Armenia, a former Soviet republic in the Caucasus, is looking to solidify economic support from the West. The financial aid would be "very much needed" in Armenia with both the EU and the US keen on a "rapprochement" with the landlocked country... Читать дальше...

France24.com (en)

The garment industry brings in more than $55 billion a year, making Bangladesh the world's second-largest clothing exporter, just behind China. FRANCE 24 takes a closer look at the Bangladesh of today, a country that has fully embraced globalisation.

Israel admits errors in Gaza aid worker killings, says believed was targeting Hamas

France24.com (en)

The two brigade officers who ordered the drone strikes, a colonel and a major, are being fired, the army said, and its Southern Command chief reprimanded. It was a rare confession of wrongdoing by Israel in its nearly six-month war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, where the health ministry of the Hamas-ruled territory says more than 33,000 people, mostly civilians have been killed. The victims -- an Australian, three Britons, a North American, a Palestinian and a Pole -- were killed Monday... Читать дальше...

France24.com (en)

Israel came under mounting pressure Friday to step up aid to Gaza with its military admitting a series of "grave mistakes" when a drone killed seven aid workers in the embattled territory. The Israeli military said that it dismissed two officers and reprimanded three others for their roles in drone strikes in Gaza that killed seven aid workers on a food-delivery mission, saying they had mishandled critical information and violated the army’s rules of engagement.

Since the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel, the agency has come under suspicion, accused of being too close to the terrorist acts of Hamas. Many donor countries have suspended their financial contributions as a result. Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of UNRWA, is fighting body and soul for its survival. For one month, our reporters followed him across the United States... Читать дальше...

Howe confident Newcastle can keep star names

France24.com (en)

Record signing Isak has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham, while Paris Saint-Germain have repeatedly been touted as suitors for Brazil midfielder Guimaraes. Both have become key figures for Howe and the 46-year-old has little intention of letting either leave in the summer transfer window despite pressures to comply with Premier League spending rules. Speculation over potential high-profile exits has increased since chief executive Darren Eales admitted in January that the club may need to... Читать дальше...

France24.com (en)

The months of March, April and May are typically the hottest and driest in the archipelago nation but conditions have been exacerbated by the El Nino weather phenomenon. Many schools have no air conditioning, leaving students to swelter in crowded, poorly ventilated classrooms. "Even my smartest student is not in the mood to answer questions because it's very hot," said Mayette Paulino, who teaches a grade two class of around 27 children near Manila. She said "students feel tired and seem sleepy" as the heat intensified in the afternoon. Читать дальше...

Israel says to reopen border crossing with hard-hit northern Gaza

France24.com (en)

Israel says it's taking steps to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, including reopening a key border crossing into northern Gaza, hours after President Joe Biden told Israeli PM Binyamin Netanyahu that future US support for the war in Gaza depends on Israel taking more action to protect civilians and aid workers. Israel has decided to reopen the Port of Ashdod, some 40 kilometres to the north of the Gaza Strip, FRANCE 24's Rob Parsons said, reporting from Jerusalem.

Israel announces reopening of 'temporary' aid routes into Gaza

France24.com (en)

Israel announced on Friday that it would allow "temporary" aid deliveries into famine-threatened northern Gaza, hours after the United States warned of a sharp shift in its policy over Israel's war against Hamas militants. In a tense, 30-minute phone call on Thursday, US President Joe Biden told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that United States policy on Israel was dependent on the protection of civilians and aid workers in Gaza, the first hint of possible conditions to Washington's military support.

'There are three elements in this improvement for the access to aid in Gaza'

France24.com (en)

Israel's announcement of a 'temporary' opening of aid routes into Gaza "seems to be at least the first result from that tense phone call between Joe Biden and Binyamin Netanyahu", said FRANCE 24's International Affairs Editor Kethevane Gorjestani. "There are three elements in this improvement for the access to aid in Gaza: the reopening of the Erez corssing [. . .], the temporary use of the Ashdod port [. . .], and the increase of deliveries of direct aid through Jordan, through the Kerem Shalom crossing", she added.

From K-pop chart toppers to "Baby Shark", still the world's most-watched song on YouTube, seemingly no music is safe from a South Korean political makeover. At a rally for Democratic Party lawmaker Nam In-soon, running for a fourth term in office in Seoul's Songpa district, campaign speeches were interspersed with ear-splitting blasts of music, as uniformed campaign staff performed choreographed moves. "This kind of campaigning helps raise voters' interest," Nam told AFP before next week's parliamentary election. Читать дальше...

'Rabbit Girls': Thai football's last women promoters

France24.com (en)

Nightclubs, brands, shopping malls and car shows in Thailand often hire young women -- known as "pretties" -- for promotion purposes. Gender stereotypes remain deep-rooted in Thailand, and critics say that is especially the case among many Thai football fans. Only unmarried women are eligible to become Rabbit Girls and there is an age limit of 30. But BGPU say the role of the Rabbit Girls -- named for the team's animal logo -- is evolving, and the women are not just cheerleaders but club ambassadors. Читать дальше...
