New Wallace and Gromit Film From Original Creator Confirmed For 2024
Aardman Animations has confirmed that new film featuring Wallace and Gromit is in production from original creator Nick Park to be released in 2024.
Aardman Animations has announced that their famous duo, Wallace and Gromit, will feature in a brand-new film to be released on Netflix in 2024. Created by Nick Park for his graduation project from film school, Wallace, a quirky but absent-minded inventor, and his silent but infinitely more capable dog, Gromit, have become a British institution and are considered one of the most beloved cultural exports from the UK. The pair have delighted audiences in four short films since 1989, one theatrical feature, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, as well as appearing in several other shorts, TV episodes, and specials.
Aardman has announced that Wallace and Gromit will feature in a new film directed by creator Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, the series’ creative director. The plot outline sees Wallace create a new invention called a “smart gnome” which takes on a mind of its own, forcing Gromit to take on sinister forces for the sake of his misguided master. The film will debut first on the BBC for UK audiences and will premiere exclusively on Netflix for international audiences in 2024.
The film’s story seems as if it is treading similar ground to its predecessors, with Wallace’s wacky inventions backfiring, leading to Gromit having to clear up the mess. This will be the first film to not feature Wallace’s original voice actor, Peter Sallis, who died in 2017 and has since been portrayed in other media by Ben Whitehead. This unexpected news will certainly be welcomed by Aardman fans who have been eagerly anticipating a new dedicated film featuring Wallace and Gromit.
