It’s a long awaited return to Firhill for the Spiders this afternoon and our first home game of 2022 as Airdrie visit for the the third time this season. Call offs have meant that our last four matches have been on the road with our last game at Firhill having been the 6-0 win over Falkirk in early December. Ahead of Airdrie’s visit, the club media team spoke to Director of Football, Marijn Beuker.
Marijn said: “We have had another good week in training, and we believe we are getting better every day that we continue to work on our model and how we want to play. We also had an exhibition game during the week against Kilmarnock which was beneficial in terms of getting some of the boy’s game time. That said, we know that it is not worth anything if we don’t reward ourselves with three points on a matchday.”
“We can keep talking about playing good and improving but we are at the stage where we need reward ourselves by winning, it is as simple as that. Everyone is aware of that, and our focus is on achieving that so from my perspective that is good to see.”
“Whilst we are looking forward to being back at home tomorrow, if we are being honest, we can’t help but feel that we could and should have won the last two matches away from home. We discussed after last Saturday’s match the importance of finishing our chances and that is something which we have continued to work on. We now need to focus on the Airdrie match and with it being my first home match, it’s one that I am looking forward to.”
“We are all happy to be back at home for this match but more importantly we are ready to do what is required to make it a successful game from our perspective. Everyone in the group is very eager and very focussed on that. We know, and we have read it ourselves, that the fans are desperate for a victory, and we are determined to make that happen.”
On the squad front Marijn confirmed that there has been little change to the squad that he had available last Saturday at Clyde, with Simon Murray, Willie Muir, Stuart Morrison, Darren Lyon and Will Baynham continuing to miss out through injury. Marijn confirmed that Darren Lyon is edging closer to a return, with the others being further away from their returns. On the squad in general Marijn commented: “We expect to see some movement over the coming days with some players going out on loan whilst we also hope to add some quality to the team in the final few days of the transfer window.”
Supporters Information
Sale of Match Tickets – Home Supporters – these remain on sale via our online ticket centre HERE. Please note tickets, can only be bought online, there will be no pay at the gate facility.
Visiting Supporters – Airdrie supporters attending today’s game will be accommodated in the Colin Weir Stand, with entrance via the turnstiles to the John Lambie Stand at the North end of the stadium. Stewards will be on hand to direct fans to their seats. Tickets are still available to buy, only via our online ticket centre HERE.
Live Stream – the game will be available to view via our live streaming service for anyone unable to attend in person. You can buy a live stream HERE.
Lateral Flow Testing – the club strongly advises everyone planning to attend to take a lateral flow test before setting off.
Covid Passports/Evidence of Negative Lateral Flow Test Result – due to the size of the crowd expected, these are NOT necessary to gain entry to the stadium.
Physical Distancing – physical distancing is no longer required in the seating bowl so groups of friends and families can sit together to enjoy the game. Spectators do not need to occupy the specific seat number on their ticket. Should anyone wish to sit in a quieter area of the stadium, our stewards will help you find a suitable seat to watch the game. 2 meter distancing is applicable inside the stadium while queuing.
Face Coverings – unless exempt, it remains mandatory to wear a face covering in all internal areas of the stadium. Although a face covering is not required while outside in the seating bowl, please respect the right of any fellow supporters who wish to do so.
General Guidance – these continue to be challenging times and the health and safety of our players, staff and spectators remains of the highest priority. The club encourage everyone planning to attend Firhill to:
- take a lateral flow test before setting off. If that result is positive, follow guidelines – do not attend the game
- make use of the hand sanitiser points located around the stadium
- follow guidance on face coverings
- enjoy the game
