David Petrosyan: We demand an apology from the leadership of YSU for unreasonable slander
ArmInfo. The youth movement "For the Development of Science", protesting against the law on "Military Commitment and the Status of a Serviceman" demands an apology from the leadership of YSU for unreasonable slander.
Note that YSU Rector Aram Simonyan said today that the actions of students are coordinated by foreign organizations, which is proved by the fact that they resumed the hunger strike immediately upon return from the Soros Foundation conference in Poland.
"My participation in the conference of the Soros Foundation in Poland was originally agreed with the leadership of the university and signed in the rectorate. This conference has nothing to do with the protest actions that we are conducting," the leader of the youth movement told ArmInfo on December 18 movement "For the Development of Science" David Petrosyan.
Petrosyan noted that he participated in a conference related to elections. The student noted that all the leadership of the YSU, including the rector, signed and assured all necessary documents for his trip, and they knew which conference was held in Poland and for what purpose. "This accusation has nothing to do with our protest actions, we are not led by anyone, and we demand that the leadership of the university that slandered us publicly ask us for forgiveness," Petrosyan said.
As for the accusations of Deputy Defense Minister Artak Zakaryan "in whimsical behavior" and the refusal of students to continue constructive talks, Petrosyan said that out of 2 proposals submitted by members of the initiative - one proposal concerning the transfer of higher education to the army - was completely rejected. As for the second part of the students' talks with the government about setting criteria for talented young people with a view to postponing them from the army, Petrosyan noted that this issue should be handled by the authorities. "Negotiations on this score are pointless, our main goal was not coordination of these issues. The fact that we proposed everything was rejected, therefore, we considered these negotiations ineffective and resumed our struggle," the student explained.
Note that the protesting students today announced the resumption of an indefinite hunger strike until their demands are met. In this regard, YSU Rector Aram Simonyan in a conversation with the radio "Azatutyun" said that the resumption of hunger strikes by students was the task of the West. "They returned from Poland the day before yesterday, with the well-known Soros conference, therefore, most likely they received certain instructions there, and in the morning they went into the audience and went on a hunger strike." We will not interfere with them, "Simonyan said. According to Simonyan, the students chose the wrong path. "The fact that they are spreading and what they intend to do is not in the interests of our people and not in the interests of the development of science," Simonyan said. He stressed that students are trying to politicize this movement. "My personal opinion is that they are being led, and there is nothing spontaneous in this hunger strike," the rector said, adding that he is confident that students want to destabilize the political situation.
Note that this morning the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia Artak Zakaryan stated in his conversation with journalists that such behavior of students and the termination of negotiations by them is a whim, as at the meeting of the Defense Minister with students a clear agreement was reached on submitting proposals to the sensational law, instead of this youth representatives went on a hunger strike.
