Australian natural resources company Harena Resources has signed a nonbinding indicative offtake term sheet with US-based United Rare Earths for the sale and purchase of mixed rare earth carbonate product. Harena is advancing its 75%-owned Ampasindava rare earths ionic clay project in Madagascar, which is considered to be one of the most significant ionic clay rare earth sites in the world outside of China.

Chile's economic development agency CORFO on Wednesday said it reached an agreement with Albemarle to establish an option for the US company to increase its production quota by 240 000 metric tons of lithium metal equivalent (LME). The increase would raise Albermarle's production quota by close to 50%, from about 460 000 metric tons of LME currently.

Anglo American has frozen hiring globally after its pledge this week to simplify the miner that is the target of a $43-billion bid by Australia's BHP, according to an internal memo issued by Anglo and seen by Reuters. Anglo laid out plans on Tuesday to refocus its company on energy transition metal copper while spinning out or selling its less profitable coal, nickel, diamond and platinum businesses, as it moves to fend off the world's biggest miner.

Brazilian federal prosecutors have filed a lawsuit to suspend a license given to a Canadian firm to install what would be Latin America's largest fertilizer mine in the Amazon rainforest, their office said. The planned mine by Brazil Potash overlaps with ancestral lands of the Mura Indigenous people whose territory is in the process of demarcation, the prosecutors said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
