Welsh police say a suspect has been arrested after three people were injured in a “major incident” at a school in Wales. Dyfed-Powys Police said Wednesday that the victims were being treated for injuries at Amman Valley School in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire. Police did not disclose what happened, the nature of the injuries or why the alleged suspect was arrested. The school was closed. Vaughan Gething, the First Minister of Wales, said he was shocked and he thanked police and ambulance crews for their response.

British competition regulators say they’ll scrutinize recent artificial intelligence deals by Microsoft and Amazon over concerns that the moves could thwart competition in the AI industry. The Competition and Markets Authority said Wednesday it’s looking into Microsoft’s partnership with France’s Mistral AI and the company’s hiring of key staff from another startup, Inflection AI. A New Jersey woman who was near death has received a transplanted pig kidney, part of a dramatic pair of surgeries that also stabilized her failing heart. Doctors at NYU Langone Health say 54-year-old Lisa Pisano is recovering well. She is only the second patient ever to receive a pig kidney. The first, a man transplanted last month in Boston, also is faring well. Pisano was far sicker, suffering a combination of heart and kidney failure. It's the latest in a string of attempts to make animal-to-human organ transplants a reality.

Columbia University says that it is making “important progress” with pro-Palestinian student protesters who set up a tent encampment and that the university extended a deadline to clear out. The university said early Wednesday that student protesters “have committed to dismantling and removing a significant number of tents." A smaller encampment remained on campus Wednesday morning. The university says that there was “constructive dialogue” and that it will continue conversations for 48 hours. The protest is one of many at schools across the U.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi says his country has proven the West doesn’t have a monopoly on technology while inaugurating a hydropower and irrigation project in Sri Lanka. Raisi is the first Iranian leader to visit Sri Lanka on Wednesday since former President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad visited the country in 2008.
