Bangkok — Thailand’s most popular political party is facing a spate of legal challenges that could see it dissolved or its lawmakers ejected from parliament since a top court found it in breach of the constitution. U.S. State Department — U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday that Hamas militant leaders' proposal for a cease-fire in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages contained "clear nonstarters," but leaves room for ongoing negotiations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, rejected the plan offered by Hamas to end the war in Gaza, instead vowing to push forward with his nation’s attack on the militants until it achieves "absolute victory." The Israeli leader ruled... Читать дальше...
LAS VEGAS — Nikki Haley was swamped Tuesday in Nevada's symbolic Republican presidential primary as GOP voters resoundingly picked the "none of these candidates" option on the ballot in a repudiation of the former U.N. ambassador who is the last remaining major rival to front-runner Donald Trump. Trump, the former president, didn't compete in the primary, which doesn't award any delegates needed to win the GOP nomination. He's instead focused on caucuses that will be held Thursday and will help... Читать дальше...
WASHINGTON — China’s stock markets may have rallied on Tuesday, seeing the largest one-day gain in two years, but recent declines have left Chinese investors so angry that they have been flocking to an unlikely place to vent their frustration — the U.S. Embassy in Beijing’s account on the social media site Weibo. Up until Tuesday, Chinese markets had been pummeled for weeks as the world’s second-largest economy struggles under the weight of a range of problems from slow growth to high unemployment... WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden celebrated Black History Month Tuesday at the White House amid slipping support from Black voters distressed by the administration’s stance on the war in Gaza and disillusioned by what they see as a lack of progress on Biden’s racial justice agenda. “Tonight, let's reflect on how we make history, not erase history,” Biden said Tuesday evening, taking a jab at Republican-controlled state legislatures that have introduced bills that would limit what schools can teach about race and American Black history.
