In Karamoja, an arid region in northern Uganda where nomadic herding tribes struggle for access to water, climate change is causing increasingly frequent droughts and last year at least 900 people died of starvation due to meager harvests. These climate fluctuations also force pastoralists to encroach on the territories of rival clans. The violence has claimed thousands of lives since 2018, and 500,000 cattle have disappeared.
