Brent Scowcroft, the former national security adviser to Republican Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush, announced his official endorsement for Hillary Clinton on Wednesday. "She appreciates that it is essential to maintain our strong military advantage, but that force must only be used as a last resort," Scowcroft said in a statement. "I believe Hillary Clinton has the wisdom and experience to lead our country at this critical time."

Languages are constantly changing and evolving — just look at some of the words added to the English dictionary over the past few years. Perhaps the most obvious of all is the verb "to Google," which didn't exist before the search engine became prevalent. Naturally, as the need for new words arises, something is invented or modified. The next thing you know, we're all googling "What did Trump say during his speech today?"

The man who shot and killed former The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie believed the singer was his "soul mate" and got defensive to his friends over the thought that she might reject him, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Grimmie, 22, was shot on June 11 at the Plaza Live theater while signing autographs; murderer Kevin Loibl then turned the weapon on himself.

Dozens of Democratic lawmakers quite literally sat down on the House floor Wednesday and refused to move until Republicans allowed the House to vote on gun control.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette filed lawsuits against two companies Wednesday for their work in connection to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. The lawsuit alleges that the water company and the engineering firm both contributed to and exacerbated the lead contamination in Flint's water supply through such "acts and omission [that] constitute professional negligence, fraud, and public nuisance," The Detroit Free Press reports. The brutal heat wave sweeping the Western U.S. is making it that much harder for firefighters to combat two wildfires that sparked Monday on the outskirts of Los Angeles. House Speaker Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) fundraising plans for the 2016 election don't include Donald Trump. Just a day after the presumptive GOP nominee called on his fellow Republicans to help him bulk up his war chest following revelations about the huge cash gap between him and Hillary Clinton, Politico reported that Ryan will be focusing solely on raising money for the House and Senate:

Only 55 percent of Bernie Sanders' supporters say they plan to vote for Hillary Clinton in November, according to a June 14 national poll conducted by Bloomberg Politics. An entire 22 percent of Sanders' supporters said they will vote for Donald Trump in the general election, and another 18 percent said they would back Libertarian Gary Johnson.

The two sides of Britain's Brexit debate made a final push to rally supporters on Wednesday on the last day before a referendum on whether the UK should leave the European Union. Prime Minister David Cameron urged people to vote to stay, as polls indicated a close vote. "Nobody knows what's going to happen," he said. A bipartisan group of senators on Tuesday proposed a compromise bill to deter terrorism suspects from buying guns, a day after the Senate blocked four proposals to tighten gun laws. The compromise was introduced by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.). It calls for prohibiting gun purchases by suspected terrorists on federal "no fly" lists. On Wednesday morning, North Korea test-fired two missiles, the first one widely seen as a failure, crashing into the Sea of Japan about 90 miles (150 km) from the launch site, and the second viewed as a possible success. The rockets are believed to be medium-range Musudan ballistic missiles, and Wednesday's launches follow four failed Musudan tests since April. Golfer Rory McIlroy, 27, announced Wednesday that he would be withdrawing from the Rio Olympics over concerns about the Zika virus. With golf returning to the Olympics for the first time in 112 years, McIlroy would have represented Northern Ireland in the games.

Britain votes Thursday on whether to stay in the European Union or leave, and officials representing the Remain and Leave campaigns are making their final pitches to voters in a flurry of events, including a public debate in Wembley Arena. In the wake of the Orlando shooting, the Democratic Party has mounted a major push on gun control policy. On the one hand, it's nice to see the party finally attempting to move the ball on a very important issue. On the other, the way they're doing it is staggeringly awful — pushing a doomed message bill that is blatantly unconstitutional and then selling it with Dick Cheney-esque terror-baiting.

On Thursday, the citizens of the United Kingdom will decide whether to sever ties with the European Union. It's a tangled drama unfolding on the world stage, touching upon populism, national identity, xenophobia, and the relationship between everyday working people and the elites running the world's increasingly massive and complicated institutions. Dr. Bernard Lown knows firsthand about the inherent dangers of using jargon. One day, before he became a renowned cardiologist and won a Nobel Peace Prize, Lown was completing his medical fellowship when "Mrs. S" came in for her weekly treatment for a mild narrowing of a valve on the right side of her heart.
