Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are virtually tied in California

Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) remain neck-and-neck in California just days ahead of the state's primary on Tuesday. The latest Field Poll released Thursday gives Clinton a mere two-point lead over Sanders, 45 percent to 43 percent, which is well within the poll's 3.2-point margin of error. In April — the last time the Field Poll was released — Clinton held a six-point lead over Sanders. Clinton led Sanders by a much wider margin of 11 points in January.

Sanders supporters were also found to be far more enthusiastic than Clinton's. While 65 percent of Sanders supporters said they're enthusiastic about voting for their candidate, only 45 percent said the same about Clinton, whose favorability numbers have continually plummeted.

The poll surveyed 1,002 likely voters in California by phone between May 26 and May 31.
