I keep getting long-lasting erections at the worst possible moments

DEAR DEIDRE: I KEEP getting erections at the most inconvenient times and they won’t go down for ages. It’s getting awkward.
I’m 31 and single. If an erotic thought pops into my head or I see something that turns me on, that’s it – I’ll stay aroused for at least half an hour.
I’ve tried everything – thinking about my old headmistress, or even Boris Johnson but it just won’t go down.
Last week I was at work and was due to go into a meeting and make a presentation, when I became erect.
I ended up being ten minutes late before everything settled down again. Please help!

DEIDRE SAYS: What you are describing is priapism – when an erection won’t go away.
Priapism can be uncomfortable and can cause severe pain.
It happens when the blood that fills the penis to make it erect gets trapped and cannot flow back out again.
You can try gentle exercise or a warm bath to help the erection go down.
But if the symptoms last longer than four hours it’s important to go to A&E as a prolonged erection can damage the penis and can cause permanent problems in getting an erection.

Therefore, it’s important that priapism is treated quickly.
