Sonia Sotomayor's opinion Monday in the Supreme Court's Utah v. Strieff ruling was a masterpiece. It will be widely and deservedly quoted for years for its deep understanding of why Fourth Amendment violations matter. Unfortunately, her opinion was a dissenting one, in part because Stephen Breyer, a fellow Democratic nominee, doesn't really get the Fourth Amendment.

Britain is not my country. But I sincerely hope that my British friends, former colleagues, and relations in Ireland vote to leave the European Union in the so-called "Brexit" vote on Thursday. Why? Because Britain is the only country large, powerful, and confident enough to give the EU the shock of recognition that could lead it to reform.

Last week in Houston, and over the weekend in Phoenix, Donald Trump seemed to suggest that the slain revelers in the Pulse night club in Orlando, Florida, should have been armed. "If some of those wonderful people had guns strapped right here — right to their waist or right to their ankle — and one of the people in that room happened to have it and goes 'boom, boom,' you know, that would have been a beautiful sight, folks," Trump said in Houston. Samantha Bee was pretty excited about the 15-hour filibuster Senate Democrats held for gun control last week, she said on Monday's Full Frontal, but Republicans were not. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), for example, said Democrats were just putting on a show for their favorite pet cause, gun control, when the real issue of the Orlando nightclub shooting is terrorism. Donald Trump was on Monday's O'Reilly Factor, and of course host Bill O'Reilly asked about campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who was dismissed on Monday. The speculation is that Trump's children wanted Lewandowski out. O'Reilly just asked: "He's out — what happened?" Trump said some nice things about Lewandowski, then kind of answered the question:

It has been a rough patch for Donald Trump, said Seth Meyers on Monday's Late Night, with Republicans increasingly keeping him at arm's length and favorability numbers so bad he almost makes Democratic rival Hillary Clinton seem popular — almost. "For a lot of Americans, this election is the choice between two terrible options," Meyers said. "It's like going to the break room and seeing the only snacks left are half a plain donut and a racist."

The Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump campaigns released their most recent campaign finance reports on Monday night, and if money were votes and the election was on June 1, Clinton would have won in a landslide. On Monday, the Senate considered four measures to revamp gun laws — two put forth by Democrats and two by Republicans — and each failed to get the 60 votes needed to progress to a vote.
