Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would consider reinstating the death penalty if leaders were to approve it in the parliament. On Monday, a judge acquitted Baltimore Police Lt. Brian Rice of all charges tied to the death of Freddie Gray, including involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and misconduct in office. Rice is the highest-ranking officer charged in connection to Gray's death in April 2015, which occurred after Gray suffered a fatal spine injury while in police custody.

The Paris prosecutor's office announced Monday that Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel searched Islamic State propaganda and researched the Orlando nightclub massacre before launching his own attack on the Bastille Day crowd in Nice last Thursday, which left 84 dead and dozens more wounded after Bouhlel drove a refrigerated truck through a crowd of revelers. The prosecutor's office also announced that evidence indicates the attack was premeditated and that Bouhlel had prepared for the rampage.

A report by the World Anti-Doping Agency released Monday confirmed accusations by Russia's former anti-doping lab director, Grigory Rodchenkov, that the Russian government orchestrated an elaborate cheating scheme at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. SoftBank has agreed to buy mobile chip designer ARM Holdings for $32 billion in cash, both companies announced on Monday. ARM is the biggest U.K. tech company by market value. It is a major player in mobile processing, providing processors and graphics technology used by Samsung, Huawei, and Apple. The acquisition will be the biggest yet for Japan's Softbank, which owns U.S. carrier Sprint and has a stake in Chinese online retailer Alibaba but had no big holdings in the semiconductor industry before the ARM deal. When you have as much "knowledge" and "common sense" as Donald Trump, reading other people's knowledge apparently becomes frivolous. In an interview with The Washington Post published late Sunday, Trump explained he can make decisions "with very little knowledge other than the knowledge I [already] had, plus the words 'common sense,' because I have a lot of common sense and I have a lot of business ability."

A gunman killed three police officers and wounded three others on Sunday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where tensions have been high since the fatal shooting of CD vendor Alton Sterling outside a convenience store two weeks ago. After the officers died, the mother of Sterling's son Cameron, Quinyetta McMillon, said the family "rejects violence of any kind directed at members of law enforcement or citizens."
