The Supreme Court has rejected Alaska’s bid to revive a proposed copper and gold mine that was blocked by the Environmental Protection Agency. The justices did not comment Monday in turning away Alaska’s attempt to sue the Biden administration directly in the high court over its desire to revive the proposed Pebble Mine in the state’s Bristol Bay region. White House infrastructure coordinator Mitch Landrieu is leaving his post after two years and is expected to help push publicly for President Joe Biden’s reelection. The Democratic president tasked the former New Orleans mayor with setting up a system to spend more than $1 trillion over the coming years on roads, bridges, sewer systems and other projects tied to the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has opened his third day of meetings on an urgent Mideast diplomatic mission to prevent Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza from exploding into a broader regional conflict. The first U.S. lunar lander in more than 50 years is on its way to the moon. The private lander blasted off Monday from Cape Canaveral, Florida, catching a ride on a brand new rocket. United Launch Alliance's Vulcan rocket streaked through the predawn sky, putting the Peregrine lander on a roundabout route to the moon. Landing is targeted for Feb. 23. The Republican Party of Florida will vote on removing Chairman Christian Ziegler and select a new leader as police investigate a rape accusation against him. Monday's vote comes a week before Gov. Ron DeSantis competes in Iowa’s first in the nation presidential caucuses. Ziegler denies the accusation. But the party suspended Ziegler last month and demanded his resignation, saying he can’t effectively lead during a critical election year. Tokyo’s Haneda airport is almost back to normal operations a week after a fatal collision suspected to have been caused by human error. Japan's transport ministry said the runway reopened early Monday and the airport is ready for full operations. The collision occurred when a Japan Airlines plane landed on a runway when a coast guard aircraft was unexpectedly there. All 379 passengers and crew on the JAL plane safely evacuated. Five of the six crew members on the coast guard plane died.

Louisiana Gov.-elect Jeff Landry has been inaugurated. The inauguration Sunday marks a political shift of leadership in a state that has had a Democratic governor for the last eight years. The Republican is endorsed by former President Donald Trump and is known for his conservative positions on issues such as abortion. The inauguration was originally scheduled for Monday. An emergency landing by an Alaska Airlines jetliner has prompted U.S. federal authorities to ground some Boeing 737 Max aircraft, adding another episode to the troubled history of Boeing’s Max lineup of jets. The National Transportation Safety Board has begun an investigation that is likely to last months and focus on the paneled-over exit door that blew off Friday night. Law enforcement officers in Colorado say an investigation is being conducted into an apparent altercation between U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert and ex-husband Jayson Boebert at a restaurant in Silt, Colorado.
