Ohio's proposals for gender-affirming care could leave thousands of transgender adults scrambling to find medical providers who would be able to offer hormones and other services they rely on. The proposals were announced by Republican Gov. Mike DeWine a week after he vetoed a bill to ban gender-affirming care for minors. Warnings have been issued throughout the U.S. as brutal cold and inclement weather continue to sweep across parts of the county. Bitterly frigid air spilled into the Midwest from Canada on Friday and several states were under advisories as forecasters warned that wind chills dipping to minus 30 degrees could be common through Sunday morning. Iran says it had conducted a satellite launch into its highest orbit yet, the latest for a program the West fears improves Tehran’s ballistic missiles. The announcement, on state television Saturday, said the launch was part of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ space program. Alec Baldwin once again is facing a felony involuntary manslaughter charge after a grand jury indicted the actor in connection with the fatal 2021 shooting of a cinematographer on the set of a Western movie in New Mexico. The new charge was filed Friday and defense attorneys indicate they'll fight it. Baldwin was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during a rehearsal outside Santa Fe when the gun went off, killing her and wounding director Joel Souza. Japan has become the fifth country in history to reach the moon. Its spacecraft, which wasn't carrying astronauts, landed on the lunar surface early Saturday. But an issue with the power supply means that the mission could be in jeopardy. Officials say they need more time to analyze whether the spacecraft made a pinpoint landing. Microsoft says state-backed Russian hackers broke into its corporate email system and accessed accounts of members of the company’s leadership team, as well as those of cybersecurity and legal employees. In a blog post Friday, Microsoft said the intrusion began in late November and was discovered Jan. 12. JetBlue and Spirit Airlines are appealing a judge's ruling that is blocking their planned merger. The airlines said Friday they have filed a notice of appeal with the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Earlier this week, a federal judge in Boston ruled that JetBlue's proposal to buy Spirit for $3.8 billion violated antitrust law. JetBlue says it needs the merger to compete more effectively against bigger airlines.
