A powerful real estate trade association has agreed to pay $418 million and change its rules to settle lawsuits claiming homeowners have been unfairly forced to pay artificially inflated agent commissions when they sold their homes. Federal prosecutors are asking a New York judge to sentence FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried to between 40 and 50 years in prison for cryptocurrency crimes they described as a “historic fraud.” Prosecutors submitted their presentence recommendations on Friday to a federal judge who will sentence him later this month. Bankman-Fried was convicted in November of fraud and conspiracy charges in Manhattan federal court. Former Polish prime minister Jarosław Kaczyński has told a special parliamentary committee that he believes Poland needed advanced spyware but he wasn't interested in how or against whom it was used. Kaczyński testified Friday about the purchase and allegedly illegal use of spyware by the government headed by his Law and Justice party. Severe storms with suspected tornadoes have damaged homes and businesses and killed at least three people in the central United States. Officials are assessing the extent of the destruction Friday. The three reported deaths came in Ohio's Logan County. Search crews and cadaver dogs are looking for any more bodies in Ohio. More homeowners eager to sell their home are lowering their initial asking price in a bid to entice prospective buyers as the spring homebuying season gets going. Gerald Levin, who led Time Warner Media into a disastrous $182 billion merger with the internet provider America Online, has died at the age of 84. Levin had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, although his cause of death on Wednesday was not given in media reports. More passengers aboard an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 jet when part of its fuselage blew out in January are suing — including one who says his life was saved by a seat belt. A trailblazing Southern woman who worked as a speechwriter for President Jimmy Carter after covering the civil rights movement as a newspaper reporter has died. Achsah Nesmith wrote Martin Luther King Jr.'s front-page obituary for The Atlanta Constitution following his 1968 assassination and covered Carter's first campaign for Georgia governor, which he lost. American shoppers picked up their spending a bit in February after pulling back the previous month. But last month’s gain was weaker than expected, and January’s decline was revised even lower, suggesting that consumers are becoming more cautious. Retail sales rose 0.6% last month after falling a revised 1.1% in January, dragged down in part by inclement weather, according to the Commerce Department’s report on Thursday.
