New York City officials have announced a pilot program to deploy portable gun scanners in the subway system. Mayor Eric Adams said Thursday that the scanners will be introduced in certain stations after a legally mandated 90-day waiting period. Adams said officials would work to identify companies with expertise in weapons detection technology. A judge has rejected an attempt by four former Connecticut police officers to have criminal charges against them erased in the case of a man who was paralyzed in the back of a police van in 2022. The former New Haven officers' applications for a pretrial probation program were rejected Thursday in the case of Richard “Randy” Cox. Owning a soccer club is hitting Ryan Reynolds in the wallet. Wrexham is the Welsh team bought by Reynolds and fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney in 2021. The White House says it's getting ready to welcome 40,000 people for its annual Easter Egg Roll. The egg-stravaganza was first held on the lawn in 1878. The legendary American mountaineer Lou Whittaker has died at age 95. Whittaker is known for helping lead ascents of Mount Everest, K2 and Denali, and teaching generations of climbers during his more than 250 trips up Mount Rainier. French President Emmanuel Macron has told Brazilian executives that a proposed deal between the European Union and the South American trade bloc Mercosur is bad for both parties.
